Adhesives in the Supply ChainMarch 15 2020
Ever wonder where adhesives are used in the supply chain. Are all adhesives the same? Could they be used in my business or are they already used in a different department within our company.
Here we will explain all the different categories of adhesives based on our “Products” section within our website.
Cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) Adhesives
Cyanoacrylate Adhesives or super glue as it is commonly known, is a quick bonding glue that can be used to bond a wide range of substrates. These glues are made from acrylic resin, which is an acrylic monomer. This transforms into a plastic state after curing. Cyanoacrylates require moisture to be present for the adhesive to cure. If there is no moisture, the adhesive will not form a bond with the surface. They bond with a wide range of surfaces including wood, metals, plastic and textile to name a few. Upon bonding with the surface, a chemical reaction takes place to form a harder and tougher linkage.
All cyanoacrylates adhesives have a shelf-life of 6 to 12 months. They are easy to use, versatile, strong and very affordable. You can view our product range below. If you do not find what you are looking for, our team of adhesive experts will work with you to find a solution for your needs.
- Metal Work
Doming is the process of applying a clear resin coating to a coated label or a vinyl graphic. These give a 3-D effect, enhancing logos and signs, making it more attractable, and draws more attention to the product. Our Resins are essentially epoxy, and can be found in some cases to cure within as little as 5 minutes, or sometimes several hours. Doming Resins curing time can be influenced by altering the temperature within the working environments. By simply turning up the thermostat, you can speed things up, and if you wish to maximize your working time, you should complete your work in the coldest possible temperature.
Hot Glue Sticks
Our Action Adhesives range of Hot Melt Gluesticks. These are a universal adhesive suitable for use on wood, plastics and paper. This adhesive can be used to bond difficult materials including polypropylene. This adhesive has a medium cure time. This product is applied with a glue gun.

- Paper & Packaging
Polyurethane adhesives are a thermoplastic glue or a polymer that contains replicas of organic chain units linked to urethane links. The chemical reaction between the polymers results in the creation of the adhesive. This glue can be extremely strong and resistant most forms of degradation.

Solvent Based Adhesives
Our solvent based adhesives work great in manufacturing, construction and in the automotive industries, where their fast bonding and resistance to oil and grease ensure they are the adhesive of choice. Solvent based adhesives are fast drying and have multiple application methods, allowing you to apply them in the most suitable manner for your adhesive situation.
Structural adhesives are an adhesive that cures or hardens into a material capable of holding two or more substrates together, for the lifetime of the product. They may be called a “load bearing” adhesive. The product should be able to sustain shock, vibration, chemical exposure, temperature extremes and many other types of weakening or destructive agents. The substrates involved can be the same or very different. This can range from metals, plastics, glass, rubbers, ceramics or composites.
UV Cure Adhesives
UV Cure adhesive, are single part, cure-on-demand adhesives suitable for bonding a wide range of substrates. They work through exposure to ultra violet light. It does not dissolve, melt or weaken either component, and forms a strong chemical bond between the two substrates. UV cure adhesive is excellent for bonding glass to metal, and glass to glass, and forms exceptionally high strength bonds for load bearing joints.
Water Based Adhesives
Water based adhesives are considered one of the most conventional alternatives to Solvent Based Adhesives. These adhesives are commonly chosen due their eco-friendly properties. They contain zero to low volatile organic compounds (VOC) and are commonly used for manufacturing the most complex laminates.
Water based adhesives are made from a combination of water, polymers and additives. The polymers may be derived from synthetic or natural sources and are ideal for porous or non-porous substrates. These adhesives may be formulated as emulsions, solutions, or powders, and are activated as the water evaporates or is absorbed by the substrate. In much the same way as hot melts use heat as the “carrier”, water based adhesives use water and leave a polymer adhesive film behind once the water is eliminated.
